The Clique (reviewed by LE and EZ)
We just finished the book The Clique by Lisi Harrison. It is realistic fiction. It’s mainly about Claire (the new girl) trying to fit in with Massie, Kristen, Alicia, and Dylan who are rich, snobby, and beautiful.
Massie, Kristen, Alicia and Dylan are the most popular girls at OCD. That’s when the world made sense. Then Claire moved into Massie’s guest house and Massie’s world fell apart. For instance, Claire wants to be part of the Clique but she’s not clique material. So then the Clique becomes very mean to Claire and tries to ruin her life with evil pranks. Most of the book takes place at OCD (their rich and beautiful middle school) and Massie’s house.
We think that mostly middle school girls will enjoy this book because it’s about middle school girls so they can make connections to the book. The structure of this book is description because it gives lots of details about the girl’s lives. We thought that the author described the characters very well and we want to read the next book in the series! We thought this book was great and recommend it to anyone (mostly girls).

Good Job, Kanani reviewed by H.K.
The name of this book is called Good Job, Kanani by: Lisa Yee. It is a realistic fiction book for girls in the upper elementary, low middle school grades. It is also a narrative type of book. That means that the story is about a specific person telling the reader about an event that happened in their life.
This story takes place in a little town called Waipuna which is in Kauai, Hawaii. The main character is a ten year old girl named Kanani (kuh-NAH-nee) who is trying to help save the Hawaiian monk seals. (An endangered species) She thought of having the idea of asking her dad if she can borrow the shave ice cart in the afternoons so she can raise money to print posters so people will to know to help the seals. She is so excited when her dad said yes that she got started strait away. She wants to do it with her best friend Celina, but Celina has other plans. She wants to learn how to surf, and spends most of her time practicing instead of helping Kanani. Kanani gets mad and sells shave ice with Pika instead. Read the book to find out if they ever forgive each other.
I really like this book because it shows the true meaning of friendship and family. I also like it because the main character has a goal, and is trying her very best to achieve it. I think that goals are very important and that everyone should have a goal.

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead (reviewed by LE)
When You Reach Me is a mystery story by Rebecca Stead. In this book, the main characters are Miranda, Sal, Julia, The Laughing Man, and Annemarie. Miranda is the main girl and the storyteller, Sal is Miranda’s old friend that she doesn’t talk to anymore, Julia is the snob who hates Miranda, The Laughing man is a homeless guy who is crazy, and Annemarie is Miranda’s new best friend.
This book is about a girl (Miranda) who gets these letters from someone, but she doesn’t know who. These letters reveal puzzling information that involves her future, her friends, and her family. Over time, she begins to realize how her life starts to change and how different she is compared to before. Throughout the book Miranda and Annemarie live normal lives (other than getting the letters!).
The setting is mostly at school but is also at Miranda house, Sal’s house, and Annemarie’s house. What I liked about this book is that it is told by Miranda and that along the way she gives some hints to what happens at the end. This was a good book for me and I recommend it to middle school girls who want to read a mystery book about a girl and her friends that has a twist at the end. I love this book and hope whoever reads it does too!

Slayed by J.P.
The book Slayed is by Amanda Marrone. This is a fantasy book because it has vampires and demons in it. It’s about a girl named Daphne. Her family works as vampire slayers, and Daphne hates it. She is always moving around the world, which means she has no friends. All she wants is a normal life.
One day they get a job in a big city because babies are being killed in the night. When they hear that the Harkers (another group of vampire slayers) are trying to steal their job, it becomes a contest of who can get more money. That night, Daphne goes to a bar and meets Kiki. As Daphne is followed by Kiki, a vampire attacks Daphne, and she is left with no choice but to kill the vampire right in front of Kiki.
After the attack Kiki wants to be a vampire slayer, and Daphne is forced to train her. As the contest goes on Daphne discovers that she is falling in love with Tyler Harker.
You might like this if you like vampires and some romance. I like this because it has to deal with vampires and friendship. My opinion is that it is good but in needs a bit more action.

Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins (reviewed by R.W.)
Warning: Do NOT read if you have not read The Hunger Games
Catching Fire is an intense science fiction book by Suzanne Collins. If you have read the Hunger Games (the first book in this series), Catching Fire is similar, as it is a narrative about teenagers fighting to help the District in which they live. This story takes place in the nation of Panem. Every 25 years there is a Quarter Quell, which is the same as the Hunger Games, a competition where teenagers fight to their death. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes war and killing. She gives clear evidence and doesn’t skip through major parts. She gives good enough evidence that it paints a clear picture in my mind. I really liked this book; it was so interesting, that I wanted to keep reading it and didn’t want to put it down. You don’t want to put it down because when you get to where the games are about to start the book goes by a lot quicker.
This book is about the 75th Hunger Games, so therefore it is a Quarter Quell. When last year’s games were over, the victors (Katniss and Peeta) went on a victory tour to celebrate their accomplishment. Katniss (one of the main characters) thinks since she and Peeta had won the last games that someone else will have to compete this year. Then, the Capitol changes the rule, and Katniss and Peeta find themselves heading back to the arena.
We meet the old victors when the book talks about them training before the games. Once the games began, alliances were formed and characters had to be really smart to figure out the arena. You will have to read this book to find out what else Gale has to tell Katniss.

Inside the Game by Johnny Zucker (reviewed by D.K.)
The book I am doing a blog entry on is Inside the Game by Jonny Zucker. This book is really good because it’s about this boy name Rex, who got this new phone that has two mysterious buttons. One button says, “Explore” and the other button says “Return”. Using the buttons on the phone, Rex goes inside a new video game with his two friends, but the game has a little surprise.
The genre of this book is very much science fiction because it is talking about a phone can take you to different dimensions and places. This book series would be a good choice for kids who like computers and technological stuff. The text structure of this book is a narrative. It tells a story in chapters and it is not all facts.
I think the book is a little mysterious because of the mystery driver that shows up in the video game. It is an action filled book that will keep your interest and you will want to keep reading it. I would recommend looking for this book series in the library.

The Lightning Thief (reviewed by L.E.)
My book, The Lightning Thief, is a book about a boy Percy and his friends Annabeth and Grover. Percy and Annabeth are half-bloods (children of a god) and Grover is a Satyr (Half goat and half human). The main conflict of this book is that Zeus’s master lightning bolt (The most powerful weapon in the world) gets stolen and Percy gets blamed for it. Now Percy’s quest is to go to the underworld and find the master bolt. But along the way they run into different gods, monsters, and clues to who took the master bolt and where it is.
The genre of this book is fantasy. One of my favorite things about this book is that the story is told by Percy. My favorite part was when Percy saw the three old ladies sitting down in rocking chairs knitting while staring at Percy! Scary right? I loved this book and recommend it to people who like to read wild adventurous books while learning about the Greek gods. This book is awesome!
